Cranston's tree lighting ceremony Dec. 7

CRANSTON, RI—Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung invites Cranston residents to the city’s annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony and holiday celebration on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

The festivities begin at around 6 p.m. with holiday music performed by members of the Cranston High School East and BASICS Choirs, including a trumpet solo by Domenic Kaffenberger.

Mayor Fung will flip the switch and the tree in front of City Hall will be lit up to mark the beginning of the holiday season before a special visit from Santa Claus himself at around 6:45 p.m. Ole’ Saint Nick will arrive by special escort aboard a Cranston Fire Department fire truck.

The annual city tradition brings together the entire Cranston community for an evening of merriment and cheer, complete with cookies and hot chocolate doled out by Senior elves.

“I always look forward to our annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony because it brings smiles to childrens’ faces,” Mayor Fung said. “It’s great celebration of the holiday season, and a chance to feel good about the holidays, our city and our neighbors.”

Parking for the event is available behind City Hall, located at 869 Park Ave. Motorists should be advised that Park Avenue is closed for most of the event and to seek alternate routes.

Mayor Fung thanked all the city employees and volunteers who make the event possible every year.
