敦煌文化中心慶成立五週年

羅德島州敦煌文化服務中心日前慶祝成立五週年，邀得羅州克蘭斯頓市市長馮偉杰等嘉賓出席，共二百多人歡聚一堂。

敦煌文化服務中心設在羅德島州最多華人聚居的克蘭斯頓市（Cranston），由陸威婷，黃鳳池，伍麗英，葉陳綺云，陳毅文等人創辦，是個主要為移民提供翻譯，找工作，租房子，講解社會福利，提供語言訓練，生活所需諮詢等各項服務，以及培養生活興趣的機構。

前述創辦人，各司其職，陸威婷負責教育，黃鳳池管財務，伍麗英做外交及市場行銷，葉陳綺云辦老人每月活動，陳毅文支援各個項目的分工合作。

成立五年來，敦煌中心除了前述各項服務外，還在每個月的第二個週日，舉辦講座，為很多老人家提供增廣見聞，學習新知，聯絡交誼的機會。

陸威婷等創辦人表示，走過5年，60個月，260個星期，有如一座里程碑。他們能堅持到現在，全靠許多辛勤的老師，無怨的義工，以及幫助他們的許許多多個人，企業，集團，讓他們得以在教育，健康，文化，語言等方面，為亞裔，尤其是華裔社區提供服務，幫助新移民儘快融入所處身社會，也幫助有困難者或低收入家庭。申請各項政府福利，為中小學生提供健康的課後活動及學習場所。

敦煌中心的教育項目，包括中文，數學，SAT，繪畫，鋼琴，以及今夏恢復的“英文閱讀與寫作”。參加活動者來自克蘭斯頓市，沃維克（Warwick），普域敦斯，西沃維克，約翰斯頓（Johnston）等市鎮。

羅德島州克蘭斯頓市認可該中心為社區所提供的服務，曾撥給“社區發展補助金（CDBG）“。

克蘭斯頓市市長馮偉杰當天特地親自出席慶祝會，送上一份表揚狀，嘉許該中心服務社區。

當天出席的其他嘉賓包括，達文西中心（DaVinci Center）的John Deluca，麻州南岸老人服務中心外展協調員潘鑒成。

慶祝會上的大獎是40寸的三星平板電視一台，另有無聲拍賣，學生作品展示，二人三足，和氣球同行等遊戲。

Arboretum Accreditation Achieved The Preservation Society's 88 acres of landscapes, including 1,800 trees, have achieved an important milestone: recognition and accreditation as an official arboretum, only the second in Rhode Island to achieve that status.  This places the Newport Mansions Arboretum in excellent and refined company; other recent accreditations have gone to The University of Oxford Botanic Garden, Arlington National Cemetery, and Longwood Gardens. Adopting Green Technology The Preservation Society is moving forward with the implementation of geothermal climate control technology at its historic properties.  Recently the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) awarded a $300,000 grant for the project at The Breakers, where planning is still underway. But at Chepstow, drilling was recently completed in the driveway for installation of the system, which will help to control humidity in the house, better protecting the building and collections, and significantly reducing heating and cooling costs with no pollution.  In fact, the pollution reduction at Chepstow alone will be the equivalent of removing 17 cars from the road. 吳子平獲國際領袖基金會領袖獎

國際領袖基金會（ILF）7月30日晚，在華府的首都希爾頓酒店舉行第16屆年度頒獎晚宴，頒發領袖才能獎，表揚ILF新英格蘭分會共同會長吳子平等人。

國際領袖基金會當晚還頒發多個獎項，表揚在慈善事業上有傑出貢獻者，包括特別貢獻組織獎，趙錫成博士及趙朱木蘭基金會；青年精神領袖獎，福茂集團副董事長趙安吉；最佳公僕獎，康州首位華裔州參議員黃濤（Tony Hwang)，馬州州眾議員巴烏（Kumar Barve)，以及美國代理檢查長 Stephanie Yonekura。

國際領袖基金會表示，該會每年都頒發前述各項「全球傑出人士楷模獎」，藉以表揚在政治、經濟、科學、文化、藝術方面有傑出貢獻的亞裔，彰顯他們可做所有美國青年領袖模範的事蹟。

趙錫成博士、趙朱木蘭基金會及趙安吉，在慈善事業上貢獻卓著，為亞裔贏得更多的美國主流社會認可。

美國前勞工部部長趙小蘭當晚代表家族，父親及妹妹領獎，致詞。她指出，父母一生勤懇，強調為社會服務，關注教育，不但在上海設立木蘭教育基金會，輔助學子深造，早前更捐贈一棟趙朱木蘭大樓給哈佛大學商學院，創下哈佛校內大樓以亞裔，女性命名的首例。這些都彰顯了她父母一生以身作則的示範著重視教育，家庭之愛，盡己之力為亞裔社區及社會做貢獻的事蹟。

國際領袖基金會創辦人暨執行長董繼玲表示，該會關注未來，竭力提升年輕一代。趙氏家族及趙小蘭部長以勤奮，謙遜，重視文化傳承及回饋社區所締造出來的家族傳奇，是亞裔社區的絕佳榜樣。

            ILF新英格蘭分會共同會長吳子平，當晚獲頒領袖才能獎。

國際領袖基金會指出，吳子平長期致力於服務社區，回饋社會，造福地方的成績，地方上有目共睹。

吳子平從社會工作系畢業後，在香港做社工大約五年，才移民來美，逐步由創業開乾洗店，禮品店，傢俱店，奠定腳步，並於近年成為成功的住宅及商業大樓發展商。

1988年時，吳子平與好友合作創辦大澳地產集團，並出任監管公司的主合夥人。

目前，吳子平同時擔任羅德島華人協會會長，以及多個非牟利機構的董事會主席或董事，包括路加基金會主席，國際領袖基金會新英格蘭分會共同會長，羅德島華人基督教會執事會主席。

過去25年來，吳子平作為羅德島華人基督教會耆英團契領導，還竭力照顧當地耆英，使他們的身心健康，快樂程度大幅度提升。美國國土安全局因他在羅德島社區的重要領導地位，成就華人社區的努力，曾頒給公民及移民服務類的傑出美國人獎。

國際領袖基金會的頒獎晚宴，出席嘉賓眾多，包括國會外交委員會主席羅斯、加州聯邦眾議員及國會亞太裔黨團領導委員會（CAPAC）主席趙美心，聯邦眾議員劉雲平，加州聯邦眾議員本田，Samoa，聯邦眾議員Amata Radewagen，以及羅德島州克蘭斯頓市長馮偉傑等人。
