funding opportunity for health professionals

The RI Association of Certified Asthma Educators (RIACAE) and the RI Department of Health are providing a funding opportunity for health professionals who work with asthma patients to become a Certified Asthma Educator. This effort is being funded by the Central RI Area Health Education Center (AHEC) and will reimburse the cost of attending the ALA of New England Asthma Educator Institute upon passing the NAECB exam. Nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, physician assistants, respiratory therapists, clinical social workers, CHES health educators, and educators who qualify to take the exam through the NAECB guidelines are eligible. We strongly encourage individuals who are bi-lingual and/or identify themselves with a minority ethnic group or race (e.g., Hispanic, African American, Asian) to apply.  However, all eligible professionals are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to those who reach disparate, minority, low income, and/or pediatric or geriatric populations. A first-come, first-serve rule will apply as well.  A maximum of 10 awards will be granted.

BE PART OF A CHANGING HEALTH CARE SYSTEM.  The RI Department of Health has established the Chronic Conditions Workforce Collaborative (CCWC). The CCWC provides certified educators with the opportunity to take leadership in RI on quality chronic care education and integration into patient-centered medical home (PCMH). It is a systems approach to provide evidenced-based programs to support patients and families, providers and the health care system in disease management, self-management, and patient activation. It is a partnership between multiple programs within HEALTH and other partners in RI who work on the prevention and management of chronic diseases and conditions. CCWC is building a skilled workforce of more than 400 expertly trained staff who provide evidence-based and best-practice education to activate patients and improve patient skills necessary to self manage their chronic disease(s) and condition(s) (arthritis, asthma, heart disease, diabetes and cancer). Please see flyer attached. The RI Association of Certified Asthma Educators (RIACAE) is well represented on the CCWC. The Association also provides opportunity for professional development, advocacy, and networking among Certified Asthma Educators (AE-C). All AE-Cs are welcome and encouraged to join and participate in the RIACAE.
