From Mayor Allan W.
Fung:
“First and
foremost I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the families of the
victims of the incident in Newtown . This morning, I learned Henry and
Theresa Moretti of Cranston lost a grandson in that tragic event.
I want to extend my deepest sympathy to them during this difficult time and I
want to offer them the support of the City of Cranston . Our hearts are with you and we share
in your pain.
I also want to
reassure the residents of Cranston that my
administration is working closely with the School department and Superintendent
Lundsten to provide appropriate support services to help our children and staff
so that they can cope with the senseless tragedy in Newtown .”
From
Superintendent Lundsten:
“Today the
administrators, teachers and staff of Cranston Public Schools have a heavy heart
as we reflect on the tragedy in Newtown . We extend our deepest sympathy to the
families, friends, colleagues of Sandy Hook Elementary as well as the entire
Newtown
community during this difficult time. Over the weekend and today, the school
administration and the city administration have worked together and will
continue to work collaboratively to ensure the safety of our children. Dr.
Lundsten further stated families took a leap of faith this morning as they
walked their children into school or put their children on the school bus. Rest
assured we will be as diligent as we have always been in securing the safety of
our students and staff. As a community, we will continue to support and assist
our students and our staff during this most challenging
time.”
