Mayor Allan Fung Signs Veterans Tax Exemption Ordinance into law

Mayor Allan Fung Signs Veterans Tax Exemption Ordinance into law

Cranston- Mayor Allan Fung held a ceremonial signing for the recently passed Veterans Property Tax Exemption in Cranston.  Under the ordinance, 100% disabled veterans can qualify for up to $250,000 worth of property tax exemptions over a 5 year period.

“Our disabled veterans fought for our freedoms and they carry the after-effect of their service every day.  They deserve our gratitude and support whenever we can offer it.  This ordinance allows us to give back to them in a meaningful way; by helping them financially so they can preserve their homes in Cranston,” said Mayor Fung

The ordinance was unanimously passed at Monday night’s city council meeting, where many local veterans testified in support of it.

“Helping our veterans is one of those moments that makes you proud to be in public service.  As Mayor, I am proud to sign this ordinance in order for it to become the law in Cranston,” concluded Mayor Fung.

In conjunction with the ordinance, the City Council approved a resolution calling on the Rhode Island General Assembly to approve state enabling legislation that is required for the local ordinance to take effect. Attached please find links to the ordinance and the resolution:
