Cranston Mayor Fung officially opened Budlong Pool

Cranston Mayor Allan Fung to Open Budlong Pool
for Official Start to “Summer ‘16” Season

Cranston – Today, Mayor Allan W. Fung, along with Cranston Parks and Recreation Director, Tony Liberatore, today at noon, will officially open the Budlong Pool for the 2016 summer season.
“For more than sixty years, Budlong Pool has been a cornerstone of the city’s commitment to providing top quality recreational activities for Cranston families,” noted Mayor Fung.  “My administration has invested in numerous repairs and maintenance to keep the pool up and running as a quality, affordable summer retreat for Cranston families and I want to thank Director Liberatore and the entire Parks and Recreation Department for helping to provide the quality recreational facilities and programs that help to make Cranston one of America’s 50 best cities in which to live for the second year in a row.”
Cranston Parks and Recreation operates the Budlong Pool along with a summer camp program, various playgrounds and tot parks throughout the city, a number of which were renovated last year, and a variety of baseball, softball, soccer, and other athletic fields throughout the city.  The Fung Administration and Recreation Department recently formed a partnership to finance the installation of lighting at Santamaria Field to allow evening little league games and also announced that Cranston Stadium will host the Fourth of July Celebration Drum and Bugle Corps Competition Summer Music Preview sponsored by the Bristol Fourth of July Parade Committee.
The Budlong Pool is one of the largest outdoor pools in the country, measuring 260 feet by 80 feet and holding over 1 million gallons of water. Open every summer, the pool is a popular spot for people of all ages to cool off during the hot summer months. It is open from late June to mid-August and season passes can be purchased on site. Pool hours are 12:00pm to 6:00pm seven days a week. Swim lessons are also available early in the morning. During the months of July and August when the pool is open, residents can contact staff at the pool directly at 383-3105.
