Fung Will Join Civic, Business, and Community Leaders to
Promote Business Opportunities and Foreign Investment in Cranston

Cranston, Rhode Island – Mayor Allan Fung today announced that he plans to travel with a delegation of business leaders, government officials, and community representatives on a nine day trade mission to China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.  Mayor Fung has been invited to join the trade mission by the International Leadership Foundation and the Coalition of Asian American Business Organizations to explore international business opportunities to export local products and to attract foreign investment to the City of Cranston.  International business leaders and government officials from across the United States are expected to participate.

The Taiwan and Global Advisory Board of the International Leadership Foundation has invited Mayor Fung to be a featured speaker at their Inauguration event in the City of Taipei.  He is scheduled to meet with mayors in China and Taiwan and President Ma Ying-jeou of Taiwan.  Mayor Fung will also tour commercial centers with government officials and business leaders in the cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Foshan.

“I am honored to have this unique opportunity to join an extremely prestigious delegation for the purpose of promoting the City of Cranston and all of Rhode Island.  We have so much to offer and I look forward to spreading the word among business leaders and investors in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan about the great businesses and residents of Cranston,” stated Mayor Fung.  “This trade mission and the resulting business connections will provide an extraordinary opportunity to promote the City of Cranston on a world wide stage at no cost to Cranston taxpayers.  Business and cultural exchanges such as this are a very effective way to develop business relationships and to promote foreign investment, which offers an opportunity to bring new capital into our city, which is essential to fund major development and redevelopment projects.”

The International Leadership Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Washington, DC with local affiliates in fourteen U.S. cities, as well as the City of Taipei.  The organization promotes the civic awareness, public service and economic effectiveness of the Asian Pacific American (APA) community.  The ILF delegation will be spearheaded by Chiling Tong, former Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce and it includes members of the Asian Pacific American community from the private and public sector from different parts of the United States. The delegation will travel from April 11 to April 19 and the cost of the trip will be paid by the International Leadership Foundation, at no taxpayer expense.
